Spalted Maple turning blanks from ethically harvested Missouri trees and cut to size by hand!
Spalting is a natural phenomenon that creates eye-catching movement from black lines and deep colors that branch out throughout the wood. Sharp turning tools are recommended to prevent tear-out and provide a soft, smooth surface that requires minimal sanding!
Moisture content is approx. 10% and ready for immediate use in your projects. Completed bowl shown in pictures was made using wood from this same batch of blanks!
Please note: Wood may vary in size up to a 1/4" due to possible surfacing, cutting, etc but will typically be less than 1/8" in variance. Some species and/or types of wood (such as Ambrosia Maple, Spalted woods, etc) may be prone to soft-spots, "worm holes", intermingled grain, and other unique traits that add character to each piece.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
Our bowls and other turnings are finished in a 100% food safe finish that is designed to resist the wear-and-tear of daily use.
TO CLEAN: Handwash using cool-to-warm water and mild dish soap. Using a light sponge is fine, but please avoid abrasive scrubbers. Towel dry when finished.
TO REFRESH: If you'd like to refresh the water repelling abilities or add back that like-new shine, oil-based food safe finishes (like cutting board oil) can be reapplied directly over our finish. Please follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you would like to purchase our exact finish, please reach out and we can make that happen!
