Woodturning the Trochtenberg Way

Benjamin Trochtenberg, craftsman and woodturner, started Trochtenberg Turnings to provide families and homes with quality, handcrafted, wood products that are beautiful, functional, and a joy to use.

Our biggest focuses are ethicality, environmentalism, and safety through every step of our process.

The first thing we did was create relationships with raw material vendors that fell in line with our ethicality standards. We ensure every piece of wood we use, from bowls to blanks, is harvested as ethically as possible for both the employees and the environment. Roughly 50% of our wood stock is sourced directly from weather damaged, windfallen, and previously destroyed trees, many of which would've been left to rot or turned into mulch and firewood. An additional 20% of our stock consists of reclaimed woods, "barn finds", recovery initiatives, and similar. Any scraps we truly cannot reuse or repurpose are used to generate heat for the home, shop, and more.

Once we had wood figured out, we focused on getting a wonderful formula for finishes that are truly food safe. Balancing longevity, water resistance, and sheen with upmost safety is a fine art. Made in the USA, our finishes consist of a few simple ingredients and are free from boosters, solvents, "drying aids", modifiers, and catalysts. In fact, it is safe enough to be applied with bare hands!

Lastly, every item ships in fully recyclable packaging from the box itself all the way to the protection fill material. To be free from as much plastics as possible, we use ecofriendly honeycomb paper wrap in place of bubble wrap. When you receive your item, 100% of your packaging can be placed in your recycling bin alongside other paper goods.

Thank you for trusting our products with your families and homes. We hope you enjoy each and every item we create!
